A cute little mud-colored mutt guarded the property & garden our little hut sat in.

Here was our shelter for our stay on Holbox.

I’m not one for hotels & am more in my element staying in more humble (and in my mind, authentic) accommodations.

Now do let me say, to stay in such a “primitive” place you need to be prepared to endure the possible wildlife.

Luckily, we didn’t have any run ins with my mortal enemy (la cucaracha), but the mosquitoes were enough to drive even the most resiliently calm yogi mad.

My blood type must not be their first choice as I don’t tend to be bothered by them as much as other people (oh hi Ma!), but let me tell you, the mosquitoes must not be as picky (though I suffered less than my dear friend Sandy).  Never in my life had I had them landing so audaciously all over my entire body, including my face and ears.

Our hut kept us safe though – & cozy beneath the mosquito net at night I couldn’t even hear their buzzing.

I bought this hat on the beach from a local.  It’s handmade with leaves from the prolific palms of the the island.

A simple little outdoors bathroom was just across the way.

I loved that lizards came into say hi to you when you were showering! (I thought they were so cute but Sandy hated them!)

In the afternoons on our last couple days there were torrential rains & while were out and about gallivanting round the island our little hut got a minor upgrade – a tarp over the roof.  It did the trick and we stayed nice and dry.
